New Advisor to the Director

Halvor Berggrav was on friday night offered the position as Advisor to the Director, which he accepted within a split second. Towards the end of the interview that same day, Jørgen had jokingly asked Halvor whether he had stocked properly up on beer AND champagne (in preparation for both possible outcomes). When Halvor returned to the family cabin at Tjøme after the interview, to see that the evening’s menu was tapas and cava, he took that as a good sign. We had 125 applicants for this job, many of whom were highly qualified, and after the 2nd interview round, we were left with a choice between two outstanding candidates. I am extremely happy that we have been able to act so quickly on this. Damian and Alf systematized the (tall!) pile of applications. Andrew and Inger, serving on the selection commitee for this job, have been extremely flexible, including e-mail and phone consultations from the Mid-West and Versailles in the midst of holidays. Agnete and Jørgen, on short notice, stepped in for the second round of interviews. Halvor currently works as a temp at the Department for Sociology and Human Geography in Oslo (‘alma mater’ department for Andrew, Jørgen, myself and other PRIOites). He has an MA in Rhetoric, Argumentation Theory and Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam, on the timely topic of Obama’s rhetoric (the ‘More Perfect Union’ address). He will start on 10. August. I look forward to work with Halvor!
