On Thursday, my VHS video player (yes, I still have one!) migrated to the Skjelsbækian house, where it was fed with tapes containing PRIO films from the 1960s. The twosome audience, Agnete and Inger, were both increasingly enthusiastic, and made it through a couple of hours of a PRIO documentary, a 2 ½ hours (!) version of ‘Åpen post’ centred on PRIO research, and a retrospective portrait of Ingrid Eide. TV reporting in the 60s had a pace very different from now. The films, reportedly, are a virtual treasure throve, with lectures on the definition of peace, conflict, and peace research, as well as game theoretical role plays with PRIO researchers moving between different positions in the fourfold diagram otherwise known as a Prisoner’s Dilemma. Inger has taken contact with professionals who can edit a short PRIO retrospective film, and adding English subtexts. The two member film vanguard has identified candidate sequences from the old films. And, yes, it was a late night at the Skjelsbækian. Thanks, Inger and Agnete! The rest of us has something to look forward to!
