"Climate change is a hot topic in Kathmandu these days. In cooperation with our Indian partners in the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), PRIO organised a two-day conference on 'Climate Change: Political and Security Implications in South Asia' (22-23 November at the Hotel Himalaya). The presenters and panelists were mainly researchers, practitioners and policymakers from the South Asian region, including Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Bridging both institutional and disciplinary divides, the conference generated lively and interesting debates. The event was also covered by the Nepalese media, making it to page two of the The Himalayan, Nepal's number one English daily newspaper. The front page also covered climate change that day, carrying a nice photo of Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, in Kathmandu on a campaign to highlight the effects of global warming on poor and rural communities. We have learned an important lesson from this. Next time we will of course make sure to invite any visiting supermodels to talk about issues related to our conferences."
