Ultimately, of course, it is our ambition to be affecting the regional aspects of the Obama strategy. For me as Director, this is a good thing to be working on, there is massive international interest in it, and it allows me to deepen my knowledge of a region which is likely to be central on the global agenda of peace and war in the years ahead.

One night in Paris
This Wednesday, I shall spend in Paris, meeting with Shahrbanou Tadjbaksh to discuss the research design for a joint 
project that we will do, examining regional perspectives on the Afghan conflict. I am very excited to be working with Shahrbanou on this, she knows both Afghanistan and the region well, not the least does her deep knowledge of Central Asian politics very nicely fill in where I have my weakest spots.
