Change of guard at the PCC

Today is Arne Strand’s last day as manager for the PRIO Cyprus Centre. Arne has led the PCC since early 2007. Arne has done a great job in further developing the PCC as an academic centre which stands in the midst of the Cyprus conflict, informing the debate through its research into core issues. The PCC has become a reference point for all academics and policy-makers interested in Cyprus. It has a super-competent staff (Ayla, Nicos, Olga, Mete on the research side; Guido on the administrative side) and a number of equally competent associates. Arne is leaving as the peace process is entering a critical stage, where the knowledge base that the PCC has built up will be disseminated and debated in all forums. Thank you to Arne for all you have done - for PRIO and the PCC – and for Cyprus. As you move back to Bergen and CMI, we shall surely stay in touch.

Greg takes over the job as head of the PCC. As centre director, Greg and the staff will take the PCC forward. A number of ideas are being discussed at the centre right now, such as strengthening the centre’s regional role. Depending on the outcome of the political process, we may very well see the PCC transform into an independent Cyprus-based peace research institute in the next few years. Greg is very well placed to take the PCC forward, and I hope that his in-house familiarity of PRIO will also help bring about further collaboration between PCC researchers and people here at PRIO HQ. I wish Greg the best of luck, and look very much forward to work with him, following both the political development on Cyprus and the evolution of the PCC.
