One outcome of the anniversary, was the anniversary logo, playfully merging the old PRIO logo with modern times. Of course, some made fun of the ‘jelly men’ – hinting at a certain ‘alien’ look.

Surprisingly many Prioites seemed to love the anniversary logo. After some soul-searching and many informal discussions (thanks in particular to Agnete, Ingeborg and Jørgen) on the topic, I have arrived at the following: This isn’t mainly about love for the anniversary logo. It is about lack of love for the ordinary PRIO logo. The old logo carried a lot of PRIO identity. The 1999 logo does not.
This started off a creative and fun process where it was decided that the goal must be to come up with a new logo (and visual profile) for PRIO, that carries as much PRIO identity as the old logo. It shall, in one simple image, carry the message of PRIO as a strong academic research institute, international, engaged and relevant. Sharp and serious at the same time.
Agnete and I have been working on this for quite a while: we have met with six different designers, and received tenders from them. We have recently chosen to move forward with two of these: Motorfinger & Friends and Blanke ark & fargestifter. They will present us with sketches, and we will present these to you in the afternoon Tuesday 24 November. We look greatly forward to including you all in this fun and inspirational process, and hope that PRIO will have a new and powerful visual identity early in 2010.
...And if all else fails: Agnete’s son Villas (11) has provided me with a suggestion, inspired by his mother working on this one evening. He entered the competition a bit late to be part of the formal process, but this is a clear possibility...
